Laura started riding at an early age and began competing with the Pony Club. She progressed through tetrathlon and PC eventing competing at the national championships. After leaving school Laura worked at a variety of yards and went on to gain her BHSAI in 2003. Laura then went onto working as an instructor but her real love was animal welfare and performance so began studying Equine Touch, she then qualified as a Practitioner in Equine Touch. Then started training as a physiotherapist, then fully qualified as an animal physiotherapist in 2010.

Laura keeps her horses on the family farm in Hampshire, where, during the winter months she enjoys hunting with RMA and Staff College Draghounds and her main love is dressage, where she regularly competes for the England Central BD team with both her horses.

LAW Bitting Solutions

With my first love being teaching and my passion and obsession with bits and bitting I specialise in being a bitting consultant.

With my back ground knowledge of physiotherapy and biomechanics I feel I can help to find your horse the right bit not only for the job but for the individual horse, concentrating on comfort and welfare to produce better performance.

My obsession for bitting goes right back to my first pony where I found if I rode her in the kimblewick I had some control but not enough steering for the dressage phase, however could not stop her in the French link in the x country phase. I even remember doing my PTT for my BHSAI qualification and picking Bits and Bitting as my lecture for my exam in 2002.

Over the last 4 years I have worked very closely with Hilary Vernon, Informed Designs, to make sure my horses were in the correct bits for their full comfort. In doing this I have moved my dressage Pony (Carbon Copy) from low level Elementary to Advanced Medium. We started him in the Harmony snaffle to encourage him to push in to the contact. He has just moved on to the double bridle which I feel has helped him lift his frame and encourage him to use his hind legs. Another horse was my hunt horse that went from a gag, as could not stop him, to the Symmetry snaffle as he was comfortable so stopped running from my hands. Then there is the 4 by 4 (Zazoo) my mums horse, when changing her bit to the Doubler mouth piece with hanging cheek for dressage and Pelham for jumping, changing her bits had little effect to her dressage scores but is now much happier to have her bridle put on, before she would squash you to the wall and lift her head in the air.
